Web site design and promotion.

Web site design and promotion are often viewed as two separate processes. You hire a web site designer to create your web site and then you look for a Search Engine Optimization (SEO) company to do the promotion.

While it is true that these two are often mutually exclusive... designers tend to think in terms of how the site looks and SEO people generally think in terms of keyword and contextual content... you will find that if you have a web designer that understands SEO your site will be more likely to naturally land higher in the search engine rankings.

The primary reason for this is the current search engine trend of looking at contextual content instead of just keywords. Starting last year Google began adjusting their search engine results to return sites that provide content around a "theme". Their index tends to favor sites with lots of content around a central contextual subject. This criteria changes on a monthly basis.

This makes the web designer more important in the SEO process because most of the words in your site are provided through the development process. If your designer knows and understands the SEO's job you are more likely to have a site that meets the requirements for better search engine positioning with less, after the fact, optimization

Web Site Design

HyperText Markup Language (HTML) is the main markup language for creating web pages and other information that can be displayed in a web browser.

HTML is written in the form of HTML elements consisting of tags enclosed in angle brackets (like ), within the web page content. HTML tags most commonly come in pairs like and , although some tags, known as empty elements, are unpaired, for example . The first tag in a pair is the start tag, the second tag is the end tag (they are also called opening tags and closing tags). In between these tags web designers can add text, tags, comments and other types of text-based content.

The purpose of a web browser is to read HTML documents and compose them into visible or audible web pages. The browser does not display the HTML tags, but uses the tags to interpret the content of the page.

HTML elements form the building blocks of all websites. HTML allows images and objects to be embedded and can be used to create interactive forms. It provides a means to create structured documents by denoting structural semantics for text such as headings, paragraphs, lists, links, quotes and other items. It can embed scripts written in languages such as JavaScript which affect the behavior of HTML web pages.

Web browsers can also refer to Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to define the appearance and layout of text and other material. The W3C, maintainer of both the HTML and the CSS standards, encourages the use of CSS over explicit presentational HTML markup.
